Knowledgeable anglers agree that Grenada boasts some of the Caribbean’s best game fish waters and that there is no better place to 'catch' a piece of the action than at the Annual Spice Island Billfish Tournament.

Each year the tournament takes place during the last week of January, with entrants from local and international anglers alike. There are generally three days of fishing and one lay day, but it’s not all about the fish. There is always lots of evening entertainment at the Grenada Yacht Club for the duration of the tournament, including Cocktail receptions, Happy Hour Parties and of course the final Prize Giving and Awards Dinner.

In 2002, the Spice Island Billfish Tournament became a qualifying tournament for the Rolex/IGFA Offshore Championship. This means that the winner of the tournament automatically receives an invitation to the Rolex/IGFA Offshore Championship.

The rules for the Spice Island Billfish Tournament are those laid down by the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA). There are no judges on the boats, so a high standard of sportsmanship is required of all participants. A Tag and Release system is in operation and points will be deducted for any underweight fish.

Eligible species for Tournament points are Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Sailfish. Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin are also accepted, but for weight prizes only. All fish weighed in the Tournament become the property of the Tournament Committee. All Billfish boated must be brought to the scale.
