We invite you to enjoy a tour of the northern side of the Spice Island. Your destination? The River Antoine Rum Distillery; an attraction where visitors experience the entire process of converting the raw form of the sugar cane plant into the alcoholic beverage that so many have raved about.
Visitors to the estate have the opportunity to witness the oldest functioning water wheel in the western hemisphere as it crushes freshly cut stalks of sugar cane in preparation for the boiling of its juices in massive copper pots. You will see the juices being transferred from pot to pot in a very rustic manner by dedicated sweating men within a confined space.
The juices are further transferred to modern steel boilers and subjected to a process of evaporation. The very distinct colour and aroma of the liquid is a part of the tour that visitors find very fascinating. We leave the other aspects to your imagination.
The best part of the tour however, is left for the end where visitors have a chance to taste some of the products such as the famous Rum Punch and Rivers Rum; some of which are considered unsuitable for travelling and cannot be sold on shelves due to the high alcoholic content. But remember, these beverages are not for the faint at heart so during your stay on the Spice Isle, make the River Antoine Rum Distillery a must see attraction.
