2011 Carriacou Maroon Festival

It is now over! The spectacular showcasing of the 2011 Carriacou Maroon & String Band Festival has left persons raving about it. Carriacou buzzed with excitement when the sound of the maroon shell echoed and the unique aroma of the smoked food filled the air on Friday to signal that the event had begun officially.

On Saturday, the Belair Park was transformed into a hub of cultural activity! Flambeaus were ignited, the big drums roared, ritualistic chants echoed and the dancers took the night away.

This set the pace for the ‘King of Strings’ event on Paradise beach on Sunday where the crowd poured in and the event climaxed with the sweet sounds of the string band music, a burst of flavours from the seafood variations and local acrobatic performances. Later that night, the Coconut Bar was the venue for drinks and more live string band music, creating a wonderful atmosphere for visitors and locals alike.

Next year, you should be a part of this event which promises to be even greater! As we say, once you have experienced the Carriacou Maroon & String Band Music Festival, your life will never be the same!

Despite the rain on Friday and Saturday,  the three days was lovely especially Sunday. My favourite on sunday was the performance of the quadrille group. If you didnt go then you missed part of your life.
