St. Mark's Day Festival

The parish of St. Mark which is the smallest parish in Grenada is a wonderful place to visit. Its community enjoys playing and watching football (soccer) and cricket sports, hanging at the bars and rum shops, and cooking up the islands famous national dish (Oil Down).

Though it is the smallest parish, St. Mark has much to offer, being home to the tallest mountain in Grenada (Mount St Catherine) which many hikers enjoy exploring. Amerindian artifacts in the form of petroglyphs, numerous small plantations (some of which are still operational), the remains of sugar factories, watercourses and waterfalls (which includes the scenic Tufton Hall waterfall which is also the tallest on the island.

St Mark truly comes to life in the month of April, celebrating with its very own festivity much like the ever popular St. Patrick’s Day festival. The celebration is hosted in the seaside fishing town of Victoria and with an exuberant exhibition of local arts/crafts, agricultural produce together with cultural performances and a street festival, this is definitely not a celebration to miss. It is a week long activity that Commences around mid April after the Easter holidays and here you can experience a cultural showcase of all the parish has to offer in its entirety from the vast variety of local cuisines to local fruit juices and alcohol beverages (including the island's very own Carib Beer, Jack Iron and Clarks Court Rum) just to name a few.

On the final day of celebration, the streets are closed off and everything comes to an end with a massive street party, comprising of an abundance of food, drinks and music entertainment.
